Dear Friend of CWB,
As the year comes to a close, I’d like to thank all of those who connected with CWB this past year. Whether visiting the campus, going for a sail, taking a class, contributing time or resources, or even reading this email, we appreciate you! Our community’s active involvement with CWB and each other is what makes this place special. I was particularly warmed seeing so many friends turn out for our volunteer appreciation party last month. We’ve got a great deal planned for the upcoming year and can’t wait to see you in 2023!
Cheers,
Josh

Thanks to all volunteers who attended the Volunteer Appreciation Party!
|
|
CWB runs on the continued efforts of our incredible and growing volunteer base. In 2022, 276 volunteers logged a collective total of 13,000 hours! Of those 276 volunteers, 90 logged over 45 hours. (And 32 of those logged over 90 hours each!) We were honored to celebrate these hardworking individuals at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party in November, where we recognized their amazing feats, crowned volunteer of the year, and ate tasty food while enjoying one another's company.
All photos from this event are now live on our 大发平台体育靠谱吗.

Congratulations to Keegan O'Brien - CWB's 2022 Volunteer of the Year!
|
|
Keegan has been a fixture on the CWB docks since 2010, when he first signed up for sailing lessons with his brother. Twelve years later, he serves as our night watchman, leads our Sailmaking Team, helps out in the boat shop, and leveraged his restaurant connections to help make our 2022 Rendezvous on the Docks the best in-person auction we’ve held in years! Thank you, Keegan, for all you do. CWB is grateful to have you in our community!

CWB's first-annual Free Boating Day in April was an energizing start to boating season by encouraging the public to visit our docks for a day of free boating. With the help of our volunteers, we managed to get 345 people on the water and helped over 150 kids build toyboats in just 8 hours!

17th Annual Norm Blanchard W.O.O.D Regatta

All wooden sailboats in CWB's fleet saw some thrilling action on Lake Union during our 17th annual Norm Blanchard W.O.O.D. Regatta, which had the biggest turn out in recent memory! Over 30 boats including Pelicans, Thunderbirds, Lightnings, El Toros, and Norm Blanchard built Knockabouts carried 60+ sailors ages 10 to 70+. This regatta was definitely one for the books and we cannot wait to see what the 18th annual W.O.O.D. Regatta brings next year!
|
|
The very heart of CWB has always been centered around a love and deep admiration for wooden boats. This year we have made incredible progress in restoring historic wooden boats and in turn preserving the maritime history they represent.
|
|
A huge accomplishment from this year was finally completing restoration of the Blanchard Junior Knockabout Pamela. 2021 Boatwright-in-Residence Apprentice Alec Smith began the project in 2021, which was then completed by our boatwright Dustin Espey. Pamela finally hit the water again this Spring and is now a lovely addition to our livery!
(Speaking of which, we're taking applications right now for our 2023 Boatwright-in-Residence Apprenticeship! Click here for more info. This CWB apprenticeship program is supported by the RPM Foundation.)

CWB's North Lake Union Campus has come a long way this year under the leadership of boatwrights Tom Jacobs and Dustin Espey, alongside a group of our hard-working volunteers. Consistent progress is being made on the restoration of several Blanchard Junior Knockabouts! Stay tuned to our social media for updates on this important restoration of historic wooden boats.

We are indebted to our hard-working volunteers, staff, and generous donors for keeping our boats afloat. If you're looking for more ways to participate, here are some fantastic ways to support us:
Matching Gifts
Make an even bigger impact with your year-end donation by applying for matching funds from your employer! Many generous companies support charitable giving by matching their employees’ donations of money and/or volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations. Submitting for that employer match can double or triple the impact of your contribution! Click here for a sample list of companies known to match donations, and contact your employer’s HR office for more info.
Workplace Giving
Making regular contributions through payroll deductions is a simple and sustaining ways to support CWB in 2023. Benevity, YourCause, Washington State Combined Fund Drive, and King County Employee Giving Program are just a few avenues through which you can make a difference. More on this here.
